Changes to the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS)

As of 8th May 2024, the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) have made key changes to the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS). The changes include:

  1. Removing the requirement for loft and cavity wall insulation recommendations on the Energy Performance Certificate (EPC).
  2. Differentiating grant levels for off-grid and self-build properties.
  3. Adding eligibility for biomass boilers with integrated cooking functions.
  4. Increasing the shared ground loop threshold for ground source heat pumps from 45kW to 300kW.
  5. Revising the application eligibility based on commissioning dates.
